Crossword Jam Tips and Tricks
Whether you are new to Crossword Jam or deep into the themed packs, these strategies will help you solve levels faster and find more bonus words.
Start Short, Build Long
Begin each level with the shortest words you can see. Short words lock in quickly, reveal crossing letters in the grid, and give you anchors to build longer words around.
Hunt Suffixes First
Common suffixes like -ING, -TION, -ER, -ED, and -EST appear frequently. Scan the wheel for these letter groups. If you spot one, park those tiles at the end and work backwards to find the root.
Use the Grid Shape
Count the empty cells in each row and column. If a slot is six cells wide, the answer has exactly six letters. Combine the slot length with crossing letters to narrow your search.
Bonus Words Pay Coins
Any valid word from the wheel that is not part of the grid counts as a bonus word and earns coins. Try every short combination you can think of.
Revisit Completed Levels
Replay beaten levels to farm bonus words you missed. This builds up coins for hints on harder packs.
The Daily Challenge Is Free Practice
The daily challenge resets every day at midnight UTC. It does not consume lives or affect pack progress, and awards bonus coins.
Double Letters on the Wheel
When the wheel has two of the same letter, pay attention to words that use both copies. A wheel with two Es opens up words like FLEE, FEED, or TREE that a single E cannot form. Count the duplicates before you start swiping and keep them in mind as you work through the grid.
Count the Grid Squares
Before you swipe a single letter, count the empty cells in each row and column of the crossword grid. If a horizontal slot is exactly six cells wide, the answer has six letters. Combine the slot length with any crossing letters already placed from earlier words and you can often deduce the answer without trying every combination on the wheel.
Anagram Groups Are Free Wins
Many levels contain anagram groups where two or three words use the exact same letters in different orders. Once you spot one member of the group, the others are free because you already know which tiles to use. Look for pairs like BEAD and BADE, or triplets like ABET, BATE, and BEAT. The grid position tells you which order is correct.
Use the Wheel Finder
Stuck on the last word? Enter your wheel letters into our word finder tool on the homepage. It shows every valid word from your tiles, sorted by length. The finder respects letter counts so if your wheel has one R, it will not suggest words needing two Rs. Use it as a last resort when you have exhausted your own guesses.
